Ikombe Village

The finished article (pre baking, of course). Bought a couple whilse there, funnily enuf they didn't make it back in one piece.

Pot making in Ikombe Village

Matema village, on the north eastern shore of the lake

getting ready for my dugout journey over to Ikombe Village

...bit more lake shore life...

Me, Taji and 3mnth old baby Stephanie (as you can imagine I was in my element!)

6.30am the morning I left - a painful departure!

Gasper or Mgune: My boatman (never did find out why he had two names?)

Stopped here for a spot of snorkelling

I have now idea how they cultivate mountains that steep?

Obviously heavy traffic on the lake on Easter Monday.

Sunrise

lake shore life...

Foreground: Lake Nyasa, mid: my accom, background: The Livingstone Mountains - T'was awsome!

The courageous (or totally mental) driver of said vehicle.

FIVE HOURS and look at the state of the vehicle and on those roads....treacherous!

A few people who kindly kept me company in Tukuyu, whilst waiting FIVE HOURS to catch a lift going down to the lake.

The profoundly picturesque Tukuyu....high, high up in the Southern Highlands....wettest place in Tz apparently (and not a drop the night i spent there!)

A light shower!

.....and some more...

...ketchup an international accompaniment to chips....

.....all snap shots of Tanzania taken from the bus.....

Some pictures from my journey to Matema Beach (Lake Nyasa).........

The dangers of food parcels. Thank you rooti, they were delicious none the less and the flip flops - very me, and all the better for the sticky cream egg bottom?!?

The neighbourhood

Noel (another APC) and housemate, cooking up a storm at home.

Suzy (the other prog coord). Yes she is on an exercise machine?!?! Will explain later!

The lovely Endesh (assistant programme coord) in the office

Working hard in the office (this is what a two day workshop with volunteers does to you!)
